This affordable Marriott brand just debuted in one of our favorite destinations in Japan
In the heart of one of Osaka's most vibrant districts, Marriott opened the 256-room Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi on Tuesday, offering a new way to stay in this beautiful Japanese city with points.
The property, which marks the first Series by Marriott hotel in Japan, sits within walking distance of the Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, the streetwear and coffee-centric Amerikamura, and the entertainment quarter of Dotonbori, according to a statement from Marriott. From the nearby subway stations, travelers can fan out to anywhere in the city.
First introduced last year, Series by Marriott features midscale and upscale hotels with convenient amenities like free Wi-Fi, daily coffee or tea, access to breakfast and fitness centers. The brand is quickly expanding, including in the U.S. and beyond.
"Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi beautifully captures the character of Osaka and demonstrates how thoughtful design and local storytelling can create meaningful experiences for travelers while delivering the consistency and care our guests expect from Marriott," Cristiano Rinaldi, Marriott International's chief lodging product and services officer for Asia Pacific (excluding China), said in a statement. "This opening represents an important milestone for the brand's expansion in Asia Pacific and underscores Marriott International's continued commitment to Japan as a strategically important market."

Marriott said each of the hotel's modern guest rooms are designed with the city's warmth and culture in mind; they are set up as either double, triple or twin rooms. The hotel itself was designed with the Japanese concept of "sugata" in mind, which encompasses "not just physical form or shape, but also presence, atmosphere and character," according to Marriott. To that end, the creators chose natural materials, muted tones and art panels inspired by the ginkgo-lined boulevard of Midosuji.
Guests can choose to explore the dynamic nearby neighborhoods or relax with a bite to eat at the on-site Ampere Coffee & Kitchen. It's an all-day restaurant with a breakfast buffet and serving up a mix of locally inspired dishes and international bites.
Rates for the Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi start at $57 or 20,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, according to a search by TPG.
